Wilson Reservoir Recreation Management Area

Rolling sagebrush surrounds this scenic area that lies near the base of the majestic Bull Run Mountains. The reservoir is a popular year-round fishery for rainbow and German brown trout. Large mouth bass fishing is usually good during the summer months. Ice fishing is very popular, although vehicle access is poor and the road is not maintained during winter months.

Trout usually range from 13 to 17 inches and the best time to catch them is from May through September. Fly-fishing is good from a float-tube or boat, but still-fishing using nightcrawlers, corn, Power Bait, small spinner, or spoons works just as well. Trolling lures, flies, and flashers with bait also will catch fish. Bass fishing is usually fair to good during late spring and summer and the average size is about 12 inches. Shore can be productive, but in summer, fishing from a boat brings the best success. Spinner baits, crankbaits, and a variety of rubber grubs and worms are productive.

Wilson Sink Reservoir was constructed in 1954 and owned by the Petan Ranch. It is used for irrigation storage and the reservoir has large seasonal drawdowns. The land surrounding the reservoir is public and administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

There are 24 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. Vault toilets, dump station, hand pump water and a boat ramp. Accessible bathrooms, fishing dock and picnic area. Camping fees – $4.00 per vehicle/night. Boat ramp fees – $2.00 per visit. Day use fee – $2.00 per vehicle.
