Weiser Valley Bowl Trail Hiking

Weiser Valley Bowl is part hiking trail and part off-road trail. Depending on your vehicle, you can make it farther on some roads then others. Even if unable to drive the entire section, parking the car and walking in is still a memorable trip.

Weiser Bowl, aka “The Bowl,” is a bowl-shaped geological feature northeast of Las Vegas near Moapa and Glendale in the northern Muddy Mountains. Formed by eroding of earth’s crust over 1000s of years, the bowl is encircled with limestone walls on three sides, allowing access into the bowl itself with 4-wheel drive or on foot. Several routes and paths to overlooks high on the sides provide spectacular views. The overlooks however are extremely dangerous because of loose rocks and underfooting. Care should be taken regarding getting too close to the edges.

TO reach this location, travel north on I-15 from Las Vegas to UTE Exit, about 40 miles if you plan to hike in or you can go to Hidden Valley Exit another 6 miles north for 4-wheel access to certain areas. Consult local maps for updated information on the access points.

Standard Warnings!
Desert hiking carries unique risks and you should always be prepared. Select routes you are capable of handling, tell someone where you are going and when you will be back, leave no trace and take no souvenirs, (take your trash out), respect wild life, the wilderness and other people. Carry appropriate supplies including plenty of water, a map, a compass, emergency lighting (even for day trips), snacks/protein bars, an emergency whistle, signaling mirror, BIC lighter and candles, Swiss Army Knife, basic First Aid kit and protective clothing (raingear, hat, mittens, sweater). And from my time in the Army – extra socks!!! Socks are light weight and being able to change them can keep your feet dry and protected.
