Las Vegas Mountaineers Club

The club, founded in July 1994, was established by a dedicated group of individuals who shared a common love of the mountains with a a desire to share their experience and knowledge with others. Members include hikers, climbers, backpackers and mountaineers; from beginner to the seasoned veteran.

Club Activities

Club members have led and participated in a wide variety of outings and activities locally and in mountain ranges of neighboring states. These include:

    • rock climbing,
    • hiking,
    • snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the local mountains surrounding the Las Vegas area;
    • ice climbing,
    • back-country skiing
    • alpine ascents in the neighboring Sierra range;
  • technical alpine routes in the coastal ranges of California and Washington.

Training Courses

Formal and informal training programs are developed to meet the requirements of members. These include rock climbing basics, map and compass courses, snow school, backpacking and more.

Fifty Classic Peaks

The club has a definitive list of our picks of the best peaks in the Las Vegas area. Join our 50 Peaks Club by summitting all 50 peaks.

Community Involvement

The club is involved with encouraging safe and clean practices on the trails. Members of the club manage a section of highway 157 on the way to Mount Charleston as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program. The club also is involved in trail clean-up projects at Mt. Charleston and the Red Rock Conservation Area.
