Lake Tahoe Hiking Trails

Everything from short scenic walks to extended backpacking.

A few of the trails available:

  • Mount Rose Trail moderate
    10.6-mi loop, reaching the 2nd tallest peak at Lake Tahoe. Dogs ok.
  • Mount Tallac Trail difficult
    10.2 mi out and back. Among the best Lake Tahoe hiking trails for views.
  • Van Sickle to Rim Trail moderate
    3.6 mi out and back, easy for the first 10 minutes. Small waterfall.
  • Floating Island Trail moderate
    4.7 mi out and back that is good for kids and trail running.
  • Tahoe Meadows Trail all levels
    11.2 miles of interpretive loops. Scenic with seasonal wildflowers.
  • Star Lake Trail moderate
    6.6 mi out and back from High Meadows. Lake elev. 9009 ft.
  • Fallen Leaf Lake Trail moderate
    8.1 mi loop by a small lake. Year-round and dog-friendly.
  • Tahoe Rim Trail difficult
    Around Lake Tahoe (172.5 mi). Multiple trailheads for out and back.
  • Ellis Peak Trail moderate
    6.3 mi out and back. Best July through October. Fabulous views.
  • Angora Lakes Trail moderate
    Lightly trafficked, 6.9 mi out and back near a small lake. No dogs.
  • Lake of the Sky Trail all levels
    1.9-mi loop walking trail including Lake Tahoe shoreline. No dogs.
  • Ale Trail various levels
    North and West Lake Tahoe trails with last stops for a cold one.
