Glittering Lights at LVMS

An annual tradition for young and old are the Glittering Lights, held in November and December. Considered Nevada’s premiere drive-thru light show along a 2.5 mile course under the grandstands and thru part of the parking area. Rated by CNN as one of the best places to see Christmas Lights in the USA and by USA today as a top Annual event in Las Vegas, the Glittering Lights grows each year in loyal fans and returning visitors. An awesome feature that is only available select nights is the live Nativity Scene. The Glittering Lights originally started at Sunset Park but moved to Las Vegas Motor Speedway about 2011. Since there it has continued to grow in scope, size and attendance.

Not only is Glittering Lights an awesome family experience but it is also a major charity activity supporting numerous causes. A portion of all ticket sales are donated to {LVMS} Speedway Children’s Charities which supports over 50 Southern Nevada children’s Charities.

Other beneficiaries of Glittering Lights charitable activities include but are not limited to local Scouting troops who sell hot chocolate and other treats. The scouts learn solid interpersonal, money management and customer service skills. The money raised helps to support troop activities to develop leadership skills as well as troop activities and events. Goodwill, which collects clothing donations, that are then sold in area stores to raise money providing employment opportunities for Southern Nevadans plus other services for for in need residents.

Glittering Lights is a drive thru event only, no foot traffic is allowed. However, you can lower your windows and crank the music for great picture taking opportunities. You may not exit your vehicle for any close ups or selfies.

Motor homes and buses are allowed but there is an 11′ height restriction. Check the website for details for buses as there is a per person fee of $2 but also a minimum fee that also applies. The bus will pay the higher of the two numbers.

Another favorite way to experience the Glittering Lights is to load people into the back of a pickup truck by meeting up Speedway’s giftshop parking lot to load up. However, the speedway is higher then Las Vegas and the general area is wide open, so you will need blankets, extra coats and maybe even some hand warmers. Once you are in line, you are in for the duration, there are no exits along the route.
